Irish economy surges 4.8% in 2014, fastest in EU

Dublin (AFP) - Ireland's economy powered ahead at the fastest rate in the European Union last year, staging a strong recovery after exiting its bailout programme, official data showed Thursday.

Irish gross domestic product -- the total value of all goods and services produced in the economy -- soared by 4.8 percent in 2014, the Central Statistics Office said in a statement.
